Singapur.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Aunque el aeropuerto se construy\u00f3 en 1981, la terminal Jewel (<em>joya<\/em>, en ingl\u00e9s) se levant\u00f3 hace solo tres a\u00f1os. Recrear la naturaleza en un entorno vinculado a la tecnolog\u00eda es original, pero tambi\u00e9n una forma de humanizar el viaje en avi\u00f3n. Un proceso a menudo tedioso alejado del glamur que el transporte a\u00e9reo tuvo en la \u00e9poca dorada de la aviaci\u00f3n. Tambi\u00e9n, de los aeropuertos Charles de Gaulle 1 y 2 en Par\u00eds \u20131974 y 2004, respectivamente\u2013. Decorado con placas doradas, busca reflejar las c\u00fapulas de ese mismo tono que coronan muchas edificaciones religiosas de la ciudad. Los grandes ventanales del aeropuerto, cuya terminal principal tiene una sola altura de grandes dimensiones, recuerdan tambi\u00e9n a los principales edificios nobles que se encuentran en la ciudad de San Petersburgo. Grimshaw Architects quiso que en esta construcci\u00f3n estuviesen presentes otros aspectos caracter\u00edsticos de la ciudad, como su divisi\u00f3n en islas y los numerosos puentes que las conectan, al separar la zona de registro y embarque. Son gigantescos vol\u00famenes donde la luz y el aire ocupan con ligereza el espacio, generando una sensaci\u00f3n de bienestar psicol\u00f3gico en el viajero. La nueva terminal de Mumbai, creada por SOM, es una proeza de la ingenier\u00eda que unifica la zona exterior donde se depositan a los viajeros con el interior de la misma. No lo vio completado, pero posee la esencia que hizo a la arquitecta iraqu\u00ed reconocida, y reconocible, en todo el mundo. Las formas sinuosas de nervios gr\u00e1ficos vehiculan el dinamismo que invita al movimiento. Este mega-aeropuerto est\u00e1 estructurado en base a un patio central alrededor del cual se organizan el resto de terminales y espacios, siguiendo los principios de la arquitectura tradicional china. Estas unidades funcionan como piezas aut\u00f3nomas y pueden ser replicadas si fuese necesario ampliar el aeropuerto. El calor extremo del desierto, la arquitectura vern\u00e1cula y la tecnolog\u00eda punta \u2013elemento que Foster siempre incorpora\u2013 le llevan a elegir un material como el hormig\u00f3n para elevar lo que en otros casos se levanta con vigas y estructuras de acero.
