Investigadores de la Universidad de Ciencia y Tecnolog\u00eda Rey Abdal\u00e1 de Thuwal, en Arabia Saud\u00ed, han logrado combinar en un \u00fanico dispositivo la purificaci\u00f3n de agua y la producci\u00f3n el\u00e9ctrica con paneles solares. Los detalles de la innovaci\u00f3n se han publicado en el \u00faltimo n\u00famero de la revista Nature Communications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p> La creciente demanda de agua limpia y de energ\u00eda en el mundo es uno de los principales desaf\u00edos para el desarrollo sostenible. Por un lado, la producci\u00f3n de electricidad requiere grandes cantidades de agua. En zonas \u00e1ridas como Arabia Saud\u00ed, m\u00e1s del 15 % de la electricidad que se produce se utiliza para producir agua dulce, debido a la escasez de este recurso, a partir de agua salada, aguas subterr\u00e1neas contaminadas o aguas residuales industriales. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para abordar estos problemas, el grupo cient\u00edfico liderado por Peng Wang combin\u00f3 dos tecnolog\u00edas ya existentes: la tecnolog\u00eda fotovoltaica de los paneles solares, que genera electricidad y la destilaci\u00f3n de membranas, un proceso de purificaci\u00f3n de aguas que puede funcionar con energ\u00eda solar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLos paneles fotovoltaicos generan una gran cantidad de calor durante la producci\u00f3n de electricidad\u201d, explica Wang a Sinc. Normalmente, este calor se disipa al ambiente, pero puede utilizarse como fuente de energ\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para ello, los investigadores ensamblaron una unidad de destilaci\u00f3n de membrana de etapas m\u00faltiples (MSMD, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s) en la parte posterior de un panel fotovoltaico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"424\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uninter.edu.mx\/ESCAT\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/solar.jpg\" alt=\"Energ\u00eda\" class=\"wp-image-30327\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uninter.edu.mx\/ESCAT\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/solar.jpg 424w, https:\/\/blogs.uninter.edu.mx\/ESCAT\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/solar-300x269.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 424px) 100vw, 424px\" \/><figcaption><br><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sistema de Destilaci\u00f3n <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Este sistema de destilaci\u00f3n funciona a trav\u00e9s de una membrana porosa que separa el agua contaminada de la limpia. Adem\u00e1s, necesita calentar el agua para evaporarla y separarla de los contaminantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Al acoplar la unidad de membranas al panel fotovoltaico, \u201cse recicla el calor residual del panel y se utiliza en el sistema de purificaci\u00f3n\u201d, detalla el investigador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De esta forma, el dispositivo proporciona una gran tasa de producci\u00f3n de agua limpia al mismo tiempo que mantiene la eficiencia de la c\u00e9lula solar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seg\u00fan Wang, el principal beneficio del hallazgo es la reducci\u00f3n de costes, ya que ambas tecnolog\u00edas comparten terreno y sistema de montaje.
