U N I N T E R L I N G U A 10 young love from the most terrifying situation of all: death. Love turned Óscar into a hero and Mijail into a monster. But in the end, Óscar’s and Mijail’s motivation had been desperation and fear of loss. In the young man’s case, he wanted to save Marina’s life at all costs. He could not imagine a life without her. In Mijail’s case, he wanted to cheat death. He felt that if nature had given humans life, they had a right to keep it. Na- ture should not decide when humans should die. Mijail wanted to live at all costs; he was desperate, but in the end he could not avoid what is inevitable: death. Mijail ended up as a selfish hideous monster trying to save his own life due to his misguided efforts to want to live forever. However, years earlier, when his young bri- de was burned with acid, his entire focus was on her. He wanted to return to her a normal life. He desperately wanted Eva to have the life that had been taken from her. Unfortunately, his love for her became an obsession, and when he found out that he was suffering from the same illness that ki- lled his little brother, his obsession to beat death overrode the love he felt for Eva. He carried out acts of desperation by operating not the other way around. While they lis- ten to Eva’s story, Mijail and his deformed creatures are coming, but this time Marina is not able to escape and Mijail quickly takes her away. Once again, Óscar wishes to save her and knows that what Mijail really wants is the contents of the last existent vial that Eva possesses. Eva, however, has left the stage and now Óscar is desperate to find her. When he does, she refuses to give him the vial, but the young man wants to save Marina at all costs and threatens Evan with a gun. She reluctantly gives him the vial so he can trade it for Marina. Óscar then drops the gun and goes in search of Mijail. The trade is not easy to make, but when the vial gets broken under Mijail’s strong grip, he furiously comes towards the young couple ready for the kill; it is then that Eva begins to shoot him until he is dead. Óscar takes ad- vantage of this situation to take Marina out of the theatre before it completely burns to the ground. Óscar and Marina were able to survive terrifying and dangerous situations, thanks to Óscar’s bravery and determination. In the beginning, his motivation had been sur- vival. Unfortunately, he could not save his
