Incluso el contenedor de todo lo que tiene de invisible lo que estamos viendo. Thomas Struth (Geldem, Alemania, 1954) lleg\u00f3 a la fotograf\u00eda desde la orilla de la pintura. Fue al contacto con Gerard Richter, profesor de la Academia de Bellas Artes de D\u00fcsseldorf, y despu\u00e9s con los fot\u00f3grafos Hilla y Bern Becher\u00a0<strong>cuando gir\u00f3 los ojos a las c\u00e1maras y se qued\u00f3 a vivir en ese espacio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Alrededor de aquellos profesores se articul\u00f3 la Escuela de D\u00fcsseldorf, con Candida Hoffer, Axel H\u00fctte, Thomas Ruff, Andreas Gursky&#8230; Un nuevo concepto de la fotograf\u00eda se hac\u00eda sitio. Y Struth, de todos ellos, asumi\u00f3 el camino m\u00e1s singular. En sus primeros trabajos, a finales de los a\u00f1os 70, registr\u00f3 cientos de calles vac\u00edas. No le importaba tanto el ser humano como sus huellas. El eco de su ausencia. \u00abLas fotograf\u00edas de la figura humana suelen ser anecd\u00f3ticas, adem\u00e1s de que la mayor\u00eda carece de fuerza hist\u00f3rica.<strong>\u00a0Y eso no sucede con la arquitectura, por ejemplo<\/strong>\u00bb, dice. En medio de la turbulencia de una calle vac\u00eda en Berl\u00edn, Nueva York, N\u00e1poles, Tokio o Jerusal\u00e9n, Struth reconoce el mundo.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6835\" src=\"https:\/\/difusionculturaluninter.files.wordpress.com\/2019\/10\/15699476091993.jpg\" alt=\"15699476091993\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"ue-c-article__media-description\">El fot\u00f3grafo alem\u00e1n Thomas Struth en el Museo Guggenheim Bilbao.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"ue-c-article__media-source\"><span class=\"ue-c-article__media-agency\">EFE<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>En los a\u00f1os 80 comenz\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n a retratar por dentro los museos. Despu\u00e9s a la gente observando las obras en los museos. Y m\u00e1s tarde, fij\u00f3 la evoluci\u00f3n tecnol\u00f3gica a finales del siglo XX y comienzos del XXI.\u00a0<strong>Tambi\u00e9n retrat\u00f3 espacios naturales, animales muertos y familias<\/strong>. Todos son ecosistemas, animados e inanimados. \u00abMi inter\u00e9s por la fotograf\u00eda no viene de la historia de esta expresi\u00f3n, sino a trav\u00e9s de los \u00e1lbumes de familia de mis padres. Cada vez que los abr\u00eda quedaban muchas preguntas en el ambiente. Entre lo que ellos me hab\u00edan contado y las im\u00e1genes que guardaban exist\u00eda un vac\u00edo. Eso era lo que yo quer\u00eda investigar\u00bb, comenta Struth.\u00a0<strong>Su padre fue herido gravemente dos veces en la II Guerra Mundial y \u00abcombati\u00f3 en el bando equivocado\u00bb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Struth genera son su obra espacios. Unas veces \u00e9picos y otras \u00edntimos. El gran formato y la definici\u00f3n de la imagen genera instantes de inquietud, de extra\u00f1a complicidad, de extrav\u00edo. Una de sus im\u00e1genes de la serie sobre museos,\u00a0<strong>una escena del Pante\u00f3n, alcanz\u00f3 en subasta el mill\u00f3n de d\u00f3lares<\/strong>. En ese momento pas\u00f3 a ser el fot\u00f3grafo vivo m\u00e1s cotizado. Lo vive con cierta distancia, con asombro perezoso. Entre sus haza\u00f1as tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 la de ser el primer fot\u00f3grafo contempor\u00e1neo que expone en el Museo del Prado. Y esta es la primera vez que el Guggenheim Bilbao dedica una retrospectiva -400 piezas, contando con su archivo- a un artista gr\u00e1fico, abierta hasta el pr\u00f3ximo mes de enero.<\/p>\n<p>A Struth,\u00a0<strong>obsesivo, paciente, alejado del concepto azaroso de \u00abinstante decisivo\u00bb de Cartier-Bresson<\/strong>, le interesa sobre todo lo que ocurre en quien mira algo. En quien observa. Qu\u00e9 deja en esa mirada. Qu\u00e9 se lleva irremediablemente. De qu\u00e9 manera aprendemos a ser animales sociales. Y c\u00f3mo su fotograf\u00eda puede ser un t\u00fanel del tiempo, una pregunta, un desaf\u00edo, una nostalgia. Una quietud que no se explica de otro modo.
