We can use it in the same places as the normal infinitive to show a passive meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">USE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We can use the passive infinitive after verbs that usually take &#8216;<strong>to + infinitive<\/strong>&#8216;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Normal infinitive<\/span>: I want to watch (= I am the person who watches).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Passive infinitive<\/span>: I want to be watched (= I want someone else to watch me).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Normal infinitive<\/span>: They hope to drive to London (they will drive).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Passive infinitive<\/span>: They hope to be driven to London (they hope that someone else will drive).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We can use the passive infinitive after modal verbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He might give a present (= he&#8217;s the one who gives the present).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He might be given a present (= someone else gives the present).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>She could employ an assistant (= she is the one who employs the assistant).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>She could be employed as an assistant (= someone else employs her).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In all of the examples with the passive infinitive, we can add the person who does the action with &#8216;<strong>by<\/strong>&#8216;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I want to be watched <strong>by <\/strong>my mother.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They hope to be driven to London <strong>by <\/strong>John.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He might be given a present <strong>by <\/strong>his wife.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>She could be employed as an assistant <strong>by <\/strong>the Prime Minister.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We often use the passive infinitive with a <strong>modal verb<\/strong> when the subject is not a person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The doors <strong>must<\/strong> be locked at night.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These curtains <strong>need <\/strong>to be washed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cars <strong>should not<\/strong> be parked in the street<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/ehli.uninter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Instagram EHLI<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uninter.edu.mx\/ehli\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blog EHLI<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/dheiuninter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Facebook EHL<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everyone!
