Dealing with emotions

Have you ever wondered how the brain works when it deals with emotions?

The brain contains billions of nerve cells organized into patterns that coordinate thought, emotion, behavior, movement, and sensation. A complicated system of interrelated nerves connects the brain to the rest of the body, so communication can occur in moments. Think about how quickly you reach out if you touch the hot burner. While all parts of the brain work together, each part is responsible for a specific function, and everything from heart rate to mood is under control.

How does it work?

The hypothalamus is responsible for releasing all the hormones necessary to feel emotions while the hippocampus controls the mental processes related to memory, and to remembering situations that generate emotion in us so that we can remember these situations.

Emotions influence the operations of reason (frontal lobe), they influence all decision-making processes. To filter and not be overwhelmed by these emotions, it is necessary to control them from our frontal lobe, expressing them appropriately, managing them towards more adaptive activities.

Control of our rational mind is essential so that we can filter emotional operations and manage them.
