Advice for an Academic Exchange to Cuernavaca, Mexico at UNINTER

Embarking on an academic exchange to Cuernavaca, Mexico, at Universidad Internacional (UNINTER) can be an enriching and transformative experience. 1. Prepare for the Climate

Cuernavaca’s climate is mild and pleasant throughout the year, with temperatures typically ranging between 20-30°C (68-86°F). However, it’s important to be prepared for occasional rain, especially during the rainy season from June to October. Pack lightweight clothing, but also include a rain jacket and some warmer layers for cooler evenings.

2. Before arriving

  • Check your country’s requirements to travel to Mexico.
  • Consult the list of objects that for your safety you cannot take on board. Also check the weight of your luggage and the number of bags allowed.
  • Get plenty of sleep before traveling and travel in comfortable clothing.
  • Drink plenty of water during the trip and try to stretch and walk often on the plane.
  • We recommend you arrive a week before the start of your classes at the Universidad Internacional to start looking for accommodation.
  • You can exchange your money in Mexican pesos at the Mexico airport without commissions. In that case, be discreet, remember that the tourist attracts attention. If you arrive very early or very late in Mexico, we recommend exchanging your money before traveling.
  • Don’t forget to change your clock to standard time: UTC/GMT -6.
  • Consider the voltage change, if you plan to bring electrical appliances, (110v) and purchase a voltage adapter if necessary.
  • It is important to always carry a copy of your passport and cash with you.

3. Arriving

Once at the Mexico City airport, you must go to the bus stop, at the end of the fast food area, and buy your ticket at Pullman de Morelos to take the bus that goes directly to Cuernavaca (Casino de la Selva).

The departure time is from 06:30 to 00:30 every 40 minutes and the price is approx. $315 MXN.

Keep your valuables secure, avoid isolated areas at night, and stay informed about local news and advisories. Additionally, ensure you have health insurance that covers you during your stay and familiarize yourself with the local healthcare facilities.

6. Manage Your Finances

Understanding the cost of living in Cuernavaca and managing your finances is crucial for a smooth exchange experience. While Cuernavaca is relatively affordable compared to major cities, it’s important to budget for accommodation, food, transportation, and leisure activities. 7. Cell phone service

Make sure you always have data on your cell phone for any emergency. n Mexico there are different telephone companies in case you need to purchase a cell phone when you arrive in the country. Below, we present a list of the most recognized companies along with their address.

  • When you arrive at the airport you can buy a SIM card from different companies with different packages to have data at convenience stores (Oxxo or 7 Eleven).
  • If you decide to use your own phone, make sure it works in Mexico due to the variation in mobile network coverage. For more information about rates, consult your operator.
