«From the Netherlands to Mexico: My Football Adventure as an Exchange Student»

Hello everyone. In today’s blog we would like to introduce Timo, who is currently doing an exchange at UNINTER and shares with us a little about his experience in Cuernavaca and how he spends his free time.

Hi everyone!

I’m Timo van Ruijven, a 20-year-old exchange student from the Netherlands who studies at UNINTER in Cuernavaca, Mexico for one semester. One of the highlights of my time here has been playing football.

I’ve been lucky to join a local football academy on some Mondays and Wednesdays. The players and coaches were really friendly and welcoming. It was great to see how much everybody loves the sport. After the first training I already saw big differences in the way they train and play here, in comparison with the Netherlands.

At UNINTER, I also had the chance to play with the school’s football team. We competed in matches against other schools in Cuernavaca! The level of football is here pretty high and you see that everybody here hates to lose, that is why everybody is fanatic.

What really stood out to me is how open and friendly everyone was. As a foreign student, I didn’t know what to expect, but my teammates made me feel comfortable.

Lastly, I always have dreamed about playing on a football pitch in Latin-America. Those typical football pitches surrounded by houses and busy places. For the people who played fifa street, you know 🙂 This is exactly what I have done and it was amazing!

Saludos,

Timo van Ruijven

Thanks for sharing your experience with us Timo and we hope you continue to have fun here and have great experiences. Until next time!
